Since its the new year I decided to update the Power Ranking system, along with the reasons for the current ranks.
*Indicates a top five player rating
The Golden State Warriors are obviously the best team in the league. They have the best Offense and the Second best defense in the league, along with the best pure talent in the NBA. Granted they have lost to the Cavs now 4 straight games, including 3 straight in the finals, they still have the highest point differential and the best record in the league.
The Cleveland LeBron’s are defending champions and proved to be worthy of the second spot by beating the Dubs on Christmas day. They’re still injury prone and only go as far as Lebron can take them. By this I mean that If Lebron doesnt go off every game, its hard for them to beat the Dubs or the…
San Antonio Spurs. As always they’re just quietly going about their business. Don’t mind them, Pau Gasol is fitting into his new role and it looks like Kawhi got better, again. Just like the Cavs, they probably won’t play their best ball in the regular season, and fans will have to wait till the playoffs to see something worth talking about, unless they play another top 5 team.
Making a substantial leap from last season its the Houston Rockets. Coach Mike D’Antoni has moved James Harden to the point guard position and the bearded fellow now league the league in assists and his team has the 4th best record in the league. Maybe they’re good enough to not get blown out by the dubs in the first round but its still too early to say.
Last and certainly least, The Oklahoma City Thunder. Believe it or not they have the 5th best record in the league, and don’t look as bad as we thought they would, I mean Russell Westbrook has to go “playoff LeBron” every night for them to have a chance, but its January and he’s still averaging 30/10/10. The rest of the team doesn’t look bad but it’ll be interesting too see how far we can throw this team when Russ is having a bad night.
Enjoy the New Year!
